Here we have the first article from a different writer, Isaac52.
Do you remember this guy? You know:
“That secret rare that I don’t want to pull”?
Or “I’ll throw it in if you do the trade”?
Or maybe even: “Boy does this card suck *rips*”?
Well, I hate to bring the shock to you guys, but this guy is ROCKETING in value. It may have taken the YCS bandwagon for us to realize this, but there’s still time to take advantage.
Maxx "C"
Effect Monster Card
EARTH / Insect / ATK-500 / DEF-200
Level 2
You can activate this effect during either player's turn, by sending this card from your hand to the Graveyard. This turn, each time your opponent Special Summons a monster(s), draw 1 card. You can only activate "Maxx "C"" once per turn.
Maxx “C” is becoming Effect Veiler's replacement. Veiler isn’t hitting as hard as she used to. She’s an inherent -1, usually used to stop the opponent from +1 or more off of one monster. Still very powerful, however in this super fast metagame, she just isn’t enough sometimes.
“Oh darn, you veilered my venus…”
Powerful, right? You stopped them from gaining huge advantage, and setting up their grave for hyper.
However, you still sacrificed card advantage for this. Sure, it kept your opponent from gaining advantage too, but in this VERY common situation Maxx "C" stopping the play costlessly, would have been better. They also will not be attempting any other major pushes that turn, unless they plan on going for game, or are just bad… but let’s not rely on that.
Not to mention, he’s far more versatile. He can chain to reborn, call, even monsters like glow-up and spore… Can veiler hit those?
I don’t think I need to remind you all, that this format is almost entirely plants. And perhaps rabbit soon though, which also gets hit rather hard by Maxx "C". And due to the lack of ignition rulings in our meta, veiler will simply not be able to hit rabbit unless for some reason they don’t invoke priority. Whereas Maxx C demands them to let you +1 off them making laggia, or better yet… chaining to leviair and forcing you to +2 off their laggia play.
Given, it isn’t exactly a staple and shouldn’t be compared to something like… Tour guide, but I think it’s worth investing in, not only as a profiteer, but as a duelist. So even if this card’s value has hit it’s maxx(pun intended) I don’t see it dropping anytime soon. The soonest it can drop, is next format if the game takes a severe slowdown by way of a Heavy Storm reban, or Royal Oppression unban.
Buy / Trade for (at least) enough for your deck at: $38-45
This investment is: SAFE, because it will continue to be a staple for the entire format (at least), and will become even better as time goes on.
